Stopping
Shelters
A sudden
thunderstorm, a heavy summer rainstorm sometimes force one to a quick scramble.
DOften the situation goes back to normal in a few minutes and the sun shines
again. The differently-abled person can be slowed down in the search of
a shelter and therefore due to their slowness in escaping, can find themselves
exposed to the rain and turmoil of objects carried by the wind.
The presence
of a shelter, in a comfortable position with respect to the play area,
could
be providential. Such a shelter, if it has the adequate size and characteristics
and if appropriately equipped, can also be used in other situations (shelter
from the sun, breaks, outdoor toys also in rainy weather, a puppet theatre,
meeting point for young people, exhibition area, concerts, etc.).
As it
can be easily understood, structures that ensure providential shelter, or
that
offer an invaluable area of shade, are appreciated by most people who attend
parks, confirming that universal design allows the greatest consent on
choices made.
